It’s possible. Look…here’s the thing about dating online. It is just a medium for communication. That is it. It doesn’t replace actually meeting the person in real life. Relationships can only really form when you are actually physically together. It’s a great tool…and I emphasize tool…for getting initial contact with lots of people. Just like at the bar, or at school, or anywhere else….and just like you can’t hold the relationship entirely in the bar or in the school…you can’t limit the relationship to just on the internet either. It takes moving outside of that initial contact space. That seems like it would be obvious, but the classic image of an internet “relationship” is someone who has been “dating” thier significant other for a week..or a month…or whatever…and they haven’t even met in real life. I got a good friend of mine who met someone on the internet….they already have thier marriage planned out and she hasn’t even met this guy in real life yet. That’s bad. I hate to tell her, but I don’t see that turning into a successful marriage. Don’t be like that.

So I guess in summary, as long as you treat it like 1) just a way to make an initial contact and 2) just a medium for communication and 3) as a tool to assist, NOT replace, traditional dating…then it will be fine. Not desperate at all. I’ve actually had quite a bit of success with it.

so i met this guy through a friend about a month ago and we really hit it off. thing is we havnt met yet we live in differ states. but we talk ALL THE TIME and if were not talking we text. we have exchanged TONS of pics and stuff. he made a ticket and is comin 2 visit in 3 weeks,

How long must we continue living in this Dark Age?

People continue to tell their children there are demons/devils waiting to attack or possess them when they’ve never seen a demon/devil themselves. They still believe they will burn in some lake of fire for eternity because a book says so. They believe it’s a sin to change the words of their holy books, yet the translations they read have been changed from their original texts so much it is doubtful the authors of the original text would even recognize the currently used one. They teach things that have been proven false by science (aka fact). All I’m asking is why can’t people keep an open mind and admit their religion, which is thousands of years old, have some flaws or be a little out of date?

I’m talking about all religions, but I use Christianity as an example because I used to be a Christian. And I want everyone to know I am not asking this question because I’m an atheist, because I am not.

It will continue until every man, women, and child realizes that a book is a book and not the word of a make believe super entity. I doubt that will ever happen as there will always be some who just can’t live without something to worship and pray to for support.

What is the proper format for presenting a speech at a US Congressional Hearing?

My associate is being considered to present a speech at a US Congressional Hearing. He is not yet sure of the date or the Committee involved. He will be talking about his research results, which involve WWII history in the Pacific. (Previously, he has communicated with the State Dept.)

My associate studied law in the university, but he has never addressed a Congressional committee before. Are there samples of such speeches available on the internet for reference? He is thinking that there may be some sort of standard type opening for such a speech. Is there normally a ten minute time limit, or what? He is hoping to find some guidelines, and obtain all relevant advice and suggestions, so he can begin writing his speech.

Any help would be appreciated. We suppose that some online resources are probably available, but we are not sure how to find them.

Well I’m trying to do a project and I need three examples of things that only apply to relative dating, two examples of things that only apply to both (relative and absolute daing) and three examples of things that apply to absolute dating. So can anyone help? I really need the extra credit from this project so please help me.

Well, I gave up on relative dating when my cousins started spreading rumors about me……

Relative dating is done by comparing the locations of the items being dated. If you look at a building, relative dating allows you to say that the first floor was built before the top floor. If you look at an archeological dig, you can say that, in general, the dirt and rock on the surface are younger than the dirt and rock and items beneath them and that the deeper you dig, the older the items you’re looking at. If you look at a series of fossils, say shells or mammal bones, you may be able to see the development of structures that give an indication of which fossils are older.
In all these instances, you may be able to tell the relative ages of the items being examined, but you will not necessarily know the actual ages (101 years, 10000 years, 100 million years) or the amount of time between an older and a younger specimen.

To combine the two, suppose that you know that a specific fossil is 100 million years old and that another is 95 million years old. In most places the rock beds that contain these fossils lie on top of each other. But in an area where a volcanic eruption took place, the beds are separated by a 3 meter layer of lava and ash. By digging down, you find the 95 million year old fossils, then the lava, then the 100 million year old fossils. Without doing any absolute dating of the lava bed, you know that it must be between 95 and 100 million years old.
You go into the house of an old man who saved all his newspapers for the last 40 years. In one pile, with newer newspapers on top and the older ones on the bottom, is a paper dated Jan. 4, 1967. Below that is a paper dated Jan. 3, 1967. Between the two, is an advertisement section without a date. From the storage in the old man’s house and the sequence of absolute dates on the papers, you can probably assume (not definitely) that the advertisement came with either the January 3rd or the January 4th paper.

For absolute dating, you can rely on eyewitness testimony. “I saw that rotten tree in the field fall in a windstorm on the day of my daughter’s second birthday. My daughter just turned 19.” Now you know the rotten tree fell 17 years ago. Or, as in the case of Pompeii’s destruction by Vesuvius in 79AD, we have written records from the era which detail the dates the devastation occurred.
You can use C14 testing or radiometric dating, looking at the decay of radioactive elements, to date items 100 or 1billion years old.

I know that’s not all you need, but I hope it’ll lead you to the rest. Extra credit should require some work on your part.
