Someone could have the same name as you.

What triggers IRS to hold direct deposits for review?

Filed on 1-16-09 electronically through H & R Block. I was denied a RAL. My direct deposit date was originally 2/3/09, then went to 2/24/09 due to processing delays (whatever that really means), then last week it stated that my refund was direct deposited on 2/13/09. It still hadn’t shown up as of 2/18/09 so I called the IRS. According to them the refund is being held for review and I should expect a letter and/or my refund in 3 weeks. I’m really concerned - just as many other people I’ve got bills that need to be paid pronto. Has anyone else had this problem and did you actually receive the refund in the time frame that they provided? Thanks for any help you can give.
I ended up getting through yesterday at 9:40pm at 1-800-829-0582 x 462. The IRS operates 7am-10pm Central Time. The lines were busy all day so it seems that the best time to get through is after 9pm.

if you claimed kids on your return that you don’t normally claimed and it qualified you for tax credits,such as the EIC or you claimed the first time home buyers credit that would delay your return until the irs gets proof from you that you are really eligible to take those credits because of the large amounts of money involved.
