What is the Dating scene like in Atlanta?

I am moving to Atlanta very soon.I am a single, black woman looking for a relationship, however I ;ve been hearing not so good things about atlanta.I’ve heard of some women living out there for years without a date:0! Can anyone give me the heads up on what the dating scene is like for a single black women like myself.

Ok, first off Atlanta is a great place to live, I was born here, the arts, entertainment, education and all that is wonderful.
The really good men in this town are mostly gay though, dear.(Or not worth having.)
I am not black, but I can tell you, we all suffer equally.

How long should you wait to start dating again?

Say your boyfriend or girlfriend passed away. I mean, it’s not like a breakup where it’s like ‘oh well, time to move on.’ How long should you wait to date someone else? I’ve been single for almost a year and when I think about dating someone it seems like it’s still too early. What do you think?
Oh, and I’ve heard those ‘when you know you’re ready’ quotes, but how do you knoooooow you’re ready?

Everyone has their own judgement about this kind of thing, but it IS entirely a personal thing.

For me (I lost my husband when he was 31 and I was 29), and in the months after, the idea of dating made me literally physically sick. I met my (now) husband just by chance a year after, I was visitng a friend of mine and her bf has one of his friends visiting by chance, so it was just a chance thing, relaxed atmosphere chatting. I just left thinking he was a nice person and just the kind of person I would be interested in dating when I was ready……… and then basically asked myself was I ready. The answer was not a clear cut yes (because I think you can never be “ready” after losing a partner, but I also didn’t want to risk losing the chance to make a new friend.

So if you feel that you are not ready, then don’t pressurise yourself into doing it, just take it easy and at least in my case you will realise for yourself when that time is.

How does dating scene work in London?

Well, I’m travelling to London for a 1 year Master Degree course and despite the fact that my primary goal is my study, I would like to know a little more about dating etiquette in the UK and more specifically in London

Dating tends to be resigned to bars and clubs and also introductions through friends.
It’s not at all like in the states, you can’t just ask a girl out on the street. She’ll find you strange in London 9 times out of 10.

I had a guy approach me for a date while on the train to work and I immediately backed away (even though he was cute!) It was a stupid response but I am so not used to it, being hostile was my first instinct and you will find that with a lot of people in London. It’s a ‘work’ city. Everybody is in a rush and trying to get somewhere. There’s no stopping to smell the roses and there certainly isn’t time to stop and say yes to a date.

Keep it to the bars and clubs and you’ll be fine. Your best bet is to ask someone out before they get too wasted though. 11pm most clubs open and most bars close. If you are at a club don’t bother asking someone out at 3am -they probably won’t even remember that you asked. lol

The drinking culture over here is insane. Everybody drinks too much.
But it’s a fun city! You’ll have a great time, and the fact that you are going to be at college means dating won’t be a problem at all because you will no doubt meet a ton of girls/guys.
