I have a bunch of antique photographs. I am most interested in the 5 photographs I have of Oil Derricks from Western Canada. I really wanted to find out what they are worth and I also want to sell them. I know the photographers name, approx date, and the condition is pretty good on all of them. Western Canada is known for their oil, and I did contact a museum about them, but he told me I should get them appraised. Im in New Brunswick and there is no where here to get it done, so Im looking for a place online that is Very inexpensive or preferably free… considering they might not be worth much. But maybe they are. The photos are all 8×10s, originals, and in Black & White… Id also like to find an online site that has a lot of buy/sell of antique items that is not EBAY.. any help would be great!! Thanks~

Do your own appraisals based on research - an appraiser is only useful if the item is potentially valuable. Check sold prices on ebay or other sites for comparables. Check to see if any photographers are famous. Bring to an artist to get an opinion on the skill of the photographer. If the subject is identified, value is higher than if it is unidentified photographs. Only after you have a suspicion that the photograph is valuable should you seek out the opinion of an appraiser.

Photography is a very difficult media for appraisers, so expect to be unable to find much.

You might be thinking of John Donne’s poem “A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning.” There’s nothing in the poem that says the two lovers are married, nor that the woman is pregnant, but the speaker does say that the two of them will remain spiritually close even while they’re physically separated, and does compare their love to gold in this stanza:

every second of the wait. I kept holding on, we did everything together as
friends……then we were drawn closer to each other again and at this time
(about 2 and a half years ago), things all worked out.

Online dating - handling too much too soon?

I have been online dating on and off for about a year. I have a first date with someone this weekend and he is very new to online dating.
We spoke yesterday for the first time for an hour, which might have set the tone for this. Well, we spoke for 30 minutes, then he called back and spoke for another 30 minutes. I like this guy and am looking forward to meeting him, however, based on my past, if there is a TON of communication prior to meeting, well, when you do meet, it kind of fizzles. Now, he is looking to talk every day along with texting. We are not meeting until saturday. I could chalk this up to that he has not done online dating before.
I can appreciate getting to know someone, however, the “too much too soon” is happening. I have been guilty of it too, but I would rather not talk to this guy before we meet. Not playing a game, just don’t need to know everything. How do I tell him that we don’t really need to talk anymore, prior to meeting. Without being rude or cold?

personally ive done the online dating thing myself…..and i am aware of the too much too soon angle…..but honestly ive come to realize that you don’t have to necessarily cut him off until you meet….

of course you can the whole avoiding thing before you see him all the “ill call you back” or “im busy call me tomorrow” and things like that….

but at the same time you also have the right to control the conversation….be secretive…..men love a good mystery…..”i’d rather not speak about that yet” or “ill answer that when i see you” 15 minutes a day until you see him is fine….

keep it simple….how was your day, mine was good/bad/interesting/etc…….simple things like that to where you don’t have to worry about the too much too soon thing….

then again you do have wishes, and he does have to respect those…..if he can’t respect your wishes then he probably doesnt need to be affiliated with you in that matter anyhow….

one other thing i’d like to point out is that online dating works to an extent but its definately better to just meet people in social environments and do the dating thing there…..
