Considering Dating- what does “go slow” or “going slow” actually mean?

I have many people tell me that in dating “going slow” is best. What does this mean exactly (understanding that this is probably a little different for everyone)? I’m interested in all points of view…

when i tell my boyfriend that i want to go slow i mean that i want to take time getting to find out everything about him and vice versa. meaning i dont want to dive in and say that i love him or have sex right away give it time and enjoy the little things.
